The avengers review, obviously. Yeah despite my deciding not
to watch superhero movies on the big screen anymore, I could not miss the
biggest release of the year. Welcome everyone to my rant of the month. This
time it will surely be short.
The movie starts with Thanos already attacking Thor’s ship
of Asgard survivors. We see how powerful Thanos is as he’s killed most of the
inhabitants, defeated Loki, Thor and even Hulk. Then Hulk manages to escape and
so does Thor. Thor goes on to find a weapon to kill Thanos where he meets the
Guardians of The Galaxy and Hulk goes to earth to warn everyone that Thanos is
coming to steal the rest infinity stones.
The story is nothing new as we were all aware what was going to
happen. But then, marvel is not known for surprising stories. It is known for its
action and comedy and creating an epic universe which is both colossal in scope
as well as personal in nature. Frankly, though, I am really fed of the marvel
brand of humour now. Those wisecracks and silly jokes in the face of
annihilation and giddy music at inappropriate times is just not so much fun
anymore.
The direction of the movie was pretty average with no
creativity or thrill of any particular scene at any time. The CGI was well
done yet nothing truly mesmerising. Music (except the Wakanda theme) was pretty
average too. The performances of all actors were, well what can I say, not
really Oscar worthy. These people are just so well verse in their characters
that you sometimes don’t even see the actor underneath and it is quite
difficult to connect with them in their emotional moments. Though, the Wakandans are always fun to watch. I like everything they do and all sequences shot there. Even the one hero I hate the most (Cap Am) can't ruin Wakanda. (wait, I hate Thor even more)
Actually the whole movie was just the way fans wanted it to
be. The purists and casual simpleminded fans alike. There was something for
everyone. Even if you haven’t seen all of the marvel cinematic universe movies,
you should not have too much trouble understanding this. The whole movie was a
very average deal but that’s how maybe it should’ve been made. There aren’t any
low moments at all and things work on a very good pace throughout. Ofcourse
except a few annoyances. One such thing for me was the close up shot of two
people having an intense sentimental stare contest. This happens far too often
in the movie. Mostly around a window with low light from a single source. But
every scene and every conversation that takes place in this scenario is utterly
useless and boring.
By the end, you start thinking how many times am I gonna see
the same colourful heroes fail and Thanos triumph almost too luckily. The end
scene might upset and/or confuse some dim portion of the fanbase but to be fair
it’s not really much of a shocker after all that’s been built throughout the
movie. Now with just the original Avengers left now, most of us can predict how
it’s going to play out in the next part of the mega billion dollar franchise.
The Verdict
You’re not going to listen to me anyway. So go ahead, watch
this movie. But really, it’s a great fun summer action flick with a good enough
ending and decently entertaining action sequences. Same old characters are not
so interesting now and everyone is a bit too touchy-feely about everything so
it might annoy some viewers. But hey, it is always fun to watch so many characters assemble and do their thing collectively. This must be the biggest plus point. This is how they sold the Avengers (2012) movie and this formula still works quite fine. Actually this is more or less a Salman Khan movie
but with superheroes and something a little bit resembling a script. P.S- Do
not miss the Arrested Development easter eggs.
The author now contemplates why he's been watching each and every marvel movie since 2010.
